CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium

Enabling interoperable Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) across Europe

Vision and Mission

Vision: A world of safe, comfortable and efficient mobility using cooperative and resilient transport and traffic systems.

Mission: The CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium provides specifications, guidelines and best practices to facilitate the realisation of interoperable, innovative mobility services, serving as the landing hub of excellence for V2X.

Cooperative and connected mobility in Europe

The CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium is a European industry initiative bringing together vehicle manufacturers, infrastructure equipment manufacturers, suppliers, road operators and research organisations.

Its goal is to enable interoperable deployment of Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) that improve road safety, traffic efficiency and sustainable mobility.

How C-ITS works

C-ITS enables communication and cooperation between vehicles, infrastructure and other road users, allowing traffic participants to exchange information and respond more safely and efficiently in real time.

This supports a transition towards:

  • safer road transport
  • smoother and more efficient traffic flow
  • reduced emissions and energy consumption

improved protection of vulnerable road users

Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X)

C-ITS is based on Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication, enabling information exchange between:

  • vehicles
  • infrastructure systems
  • vulnerable road users

network and backend services

Interoperability at the core

C-ITS requires interoperability across different systems, manufacturers and countries.

Interoperability is achieved through:

  • European and international standards
  • BSP deployment specification framework

testing and validation activities
